Ultrasound monitoring of your fertility therapy is compulsory when ovulation stimulation with tablets or FSH injections is used. The transvaginal scans are recommended usually twice monthly but in certain circumstances more often.

The purpose is to identify if the ovaries respond to the therapy (i.e. follicles develop) and to ensure that not too many follicles grow in any one cycle of treatment. The risks of a multiple pregnancy (twins or triplets) are higher otherwise. All scans are done by fully qualified practitioners and findings discussed on the day.
